The ultraviolet rays can damage the skin when you spend too long in the sun. Did you also know that UV rays can also cause aging spots, wrinkles as well an increased risk of skin cancer? So the best way to prevent all these is to protect your skin. Below are some sun safety tips that can help to protect your skin.

Apply Sunscreen

Wear sunscreen with at least an SPF of 30 before you leave the house every day.  This can count as an easy thing to do for skin protection but many people still forget to apply it regularly. You mustn’t go outdoors without putting any sunscreen on. Try to get sunscreen with a broad spectrum so that you get to protect your skin from UVA and UVB rays.

Ways To Apply Sunscreen

Apply 1 ounce of sunscreen or a dollop liberally onto all areas of your face and exposed skin that’s not covered by clothes. It’s best to wait at least 20 minutes before going outside to allow the sunscreen some time to absorb onto the skin.

Generally, you have to apply the sunscreen again after 2 hours, especially if you sweat a lot or go swimming. This is because the sunscreen wears off easily. Even if it is a cloudy day, don’t think of skipping this step. The sun’s rays can still penetrate the clouds no matter what the weather is so it is important to have sunscreen on daily. Give your lips an added protection with a lip balm that contains SPF 30.

Wear Appropriate Clothing

You can keep your skin safe from damaging UV rays by wearing sun-protective clothing. These clothing styles have become more fashionable now. Designed for sun protection, they are lightweight and cool. These apparel such as long-sleeved shirts, long skirts, and pants are best for sun protection as they cover more skin. Dark-colored clothing offers more protection compared to light-colored ones because they can block out the sun better.

Wear A Hat

Our heads experience intense sun exposure so wearing a hat will keep the forehead, ears, nose, eyes, and neck protected. A hat that is a 2-3 inch brim all around will offer more protection compared to a baseball cap.
